SPECIAL EVENTS
madaraka celebrations
Saturday 21st May 2011 was a very special day for Cecil, William and Pamela of Feed My Lambs. They were privileged to be specially invited to join early Mardaraka Day Celebrations (normally 1st June) at an event in Belfast which was organised by the Kenyan Association of Northern Ireland (KANI).
There was much excitement upon arrival at the venue. To be surrounded by so many Kenyans...it was easy to forget that this wasn't actually Kenya! The days events began with a beautiful three course meal and an opportunity to talk with those from the country so dear to our hearts.
Following the meal the children ran and played happily as the adults made their way to the function room. There were welcomes and speeches. We in Feed My Lambs were especially humbled by the welcome given to us and were delighted with how our work was explained by the speaker. We had also been asked to set out a display table giving information about our work as well as provide some of our Kenyan items for sale. Setting out the Kenyan items did feel like we were going to try and sell snow to the eskimos, but we were delighted with the response. One lady said, "It is so long now since I have been in Kenya, I have nothing African in my house."

As always we like to take these opportunities to share the Gospel. We were dighted to see so many children who were keen to take the children's tracts. We had only bought them the previous day and were delighted to have to go hunting in the box to bring more out. The photo below shows one little girl who had a cuddly monkey bought for her, but more importantly holds a little Gospel tract in her hand.
The event continued with some speeches, musical items, singing of the Kenyan National Anthem and the cutting of a beautiful cake.
The guest of honour was His Excellency Mr Ephraim W Ngare Kenyan High Commissioner to the UK. We had spoken briefly to him during the taking of the photo at the top of this page, however, when the formal part of the event was over, Mr Ngare made a point of coming down to our table to ask about the work we do in Kenya. He was so interested in our ministry, gave us some good advice, told us to visit him in London, gave us his contact and assured us that he would give us any help we needed in our ministry. Doesn't God work in wonderful ways.
It really was a great day and those in Feed My Lambs who attended would like to thank the organisers for their efforts in making the day so successful and we are also so grateful to have received the invitation to the event. We believe that God had a purpose in this and we believe this will only be the start of more opportunities to come.
