"SAFARI KENYA".....your own personal journey to kenya!
Our first ever "Safari Kenya" event was held from 18th - 23rd April 2011. This was a new opportunity for us and certainly a big challenge. There was a lot of planning and preparation to be done including the distribution of almost 1000 leaflets. However, the Lord really helped and we had a great week.
We had the use of a shop in Portadown, N.Ireland. However, whilst there were some items on sale both from Kenya and also locally donated items; selling was not the main aim of the week. Our focus was to raise awareness of our work by bringing people on their own personal journey to Kenya.
We had a display of all things Kenyan. This consisted of carvings, musical instruments and clothes as well as photos and information about the country. We also had a display of our work with some of our lessons on display along with the teacher manual from our training seminars and of course more photos and information.
We had a steady stream of visitors throughout the week and we were delighted that most people were "new" contacts rather than those who were already familiar with our work. We were of course delighted to see some familiar faces too!
We found that having a display of the work and indeed the Kenyan items generated a lot of interest and we had much more opportunity to share about our ministry than we normally do at the market. We were encouraged by the interest shown. We even had a visit from a Kenyan man who lives locally and he thought the display was excellent, so that was especially encouraging!
The Word of God talks about Esther being there for "such a time as this". We believe that God had us in exactly the right place at the right time and we believe His plan and purpose in us having this event is much greater than we had thought or even are aware of yet.
Perhaps we were there to meet the numerous young people who visited and bought some items; perhaps we were there to give Gospel tracts to some children; perhaps we were there to open up the door to future opportunities.....we believe that God knows exactly why He placed us there and we pray that Eternity will reveal just how God used this event and reached out once again.
We are really grateful to Craigavon Borough Council and Meanwhile Space for making the week possible and also would like to thank Millennium Court and local businesses Nigel O'Hara Jewellers and McQuillans Menswear for their help with some items we needed for the week.
We hope you will enjoy looking at the slideshow below which shows just a little of "Safari Kenya"...your own personal journey to a beautiful country!
